The Publications Department

Habakkuk 2:2. And the Lord answered me and said, 'Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.'

Introduction
The Publications Department of the Household of God Church is the department in which members of the church can serve God in the furtherance of the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ through publication of the revelation of the Word of God. The department was created in 1998 by the pastor of the church, Rev. Chris Okotie and it is currently headed by Mrs. Ebele Iyayi, who was appointed in 2004.

The Department shares the vision of the pastor of the church with a mission to achieve excellence by utilizing the following core values: Quality, Timeliness, Commitment, Dedication, Humility and Love.

The primary responsibility of the department is transcription, which is, turning speech to text. This in essence is getting the teachings of Rev. Chris Okotie from audio media to printed documents. These documents are not to be disseminated but kept as resource materials until a time the material would be needed for publication in various modes.

The first series of sermons to be transcribed was the “Marriage Seminar” which was a series of teachings on the conjugal relationship taught in church from 1998 to 2000. Other messages on Faith, Resurrection and Communion have also been transcribed.

Structure and Membership
The department currently has about 50 active members including financial members who assist with funds to purchase materials and organize events. To facilitate achievement of its objectives, the department is structured into smaller groups, made up of members with a group leader and an assistant. Volunteers from the church also assist in transcription work. Intending members must be born again and have been attending the church for at least 6 months; they are expected to have the ability to transcribe legibly in good English and will undergo the necessary training. Detailed forms are provided to capture relevant data.

Our meetings are held on the first, second and third Saturdays of every month. The first Saturday is a review meeting, the second Saturday is dedicated to prayer and fasting as we rely on the Lord Jesus to provide guidance for every step while on the third Saturday, the different groups have get-togethers to facilitate personal interactions and this is better referred to as ‘Thoughtfulness.'

Transcription Process
A minimum of three individuals, work on every audio tape or CD to ensure a quality output. First the ‘Transcriber,’ who listens to the tape and writes out the sermon verbatim. Then the ‘First Proof Reader’ listens to the same tape and reviews what the transcriber has done. The ‘Second Proof Reader’ fine-tunes what the first proof reader has done and prepares the work for typing if it has not been done at that stage and finally the Group Leader reviews the work to check for errors and omissions before submitting both the hard and soft copies to the Head of Department.  Sourcing of cutting-edge technology to improve the transcription process is ongoing.

Householder Magazine
The Editorial Board of the department coordinated the production of the church’s first magazine, The Householder which provided the celebrants of the different months an opportunity to showcase the goodness of God during their celebrations. They exhibited style, the joy of fellowship, and their ability to conquer opposition and achieve purpose through their collective effort, resulting in thanksgiving to the Almighty God. They gave credence on the pages of the magazine, to the scripture that one shall chase a thousand and two put ten thousand to flight.
